Title :
Authentic taste of Pho & soup

Rating : 4/5

Review:
We came to this Pho shop because of its fame and recommendations from different media. It was a bit far from us as we live in district 1, and took us 20mins with a cab to there. However we still visited twice because it worth the time.

As we expected, it is a folksy shop, localize, simple and old, but full of their history.
The portrait paintings of the owners & his family hanged right above the entrance. It is interesting that I can still recognize some of them, although the kids grew up, and the elders getting a lot older.

Waiters are kinda smart and efficient, although they don’t speak any English, they have English menu to counter it, together with the price listed on the wall in Vietnamese. As the time we arrive, they have 3 price tage for the Pho at the top of the list. Cheapest one for plain Pho soup (no meat), middles for Pho soup with 1 or 2 meat. The most expensive one for Pho soup with assorted beef meat. Others below are drinks and side dishes.

As a noodle & Pho lovers, I’ve tried Pho soup with assorted beef meat and Pho soup with raw beef and brisket. They are excellent! The noodle & soup is tasty that you feel nice umami with clean & subtle spice. They serve a full plate of thai basil, culantro and lime for free, and you can add as much as you like! That made us so excited, as they are very important for a Pho to taste as Pho. Beef were up to the par and nothing special, but just a note, that the raw beef will be overcooked if it soaked too long, so beware.

They serve some other side dishes and snacks on the table as well, and charge only when consumed.
Deep-fried dough sticks is one of them and I would recommend to try it. Tore them into pieces, dip all into the soup and serve yourself immediately. Not only the interesting texture soaked with soup, you will taste a surprising sweetness and nice aroma mixed with the soup. This is how you get a nice bowl of Pho! (We knew it by observing the locals LOL) The only draw back is the soup getting oily that way. Well, we know tasty food are oily sometimes.

The leaf wrap-up tube thingy is the tasty pork meat paste that is another signature food of Vietnam, you should try it too if you are a meat lover. It taste very good and those selling in supermarket just can’t compare with.

I would highly recommend this shop if you like local good food with cheap price. Do not expect modern stylish decor, complete cleanness, 5 star servant for serving, because this is a folksy local food shop, and this is how they run for so many years. If you can get into their food and culture, you will have the best experience as we had.
